LILITH

{A La Garagista Imprint}

Since I can remember, I've been drawn to the world of wine and the mysteries surrounding its creation. Having a background in environmental science, I was particularly curious about the process of winegrowing and how it could be done in a way that respected and honored the natural environment. When I had my first sip of La Garagista wine, I knew I had found a winery that not only shared, but was living, these values.

In 2021, I officially parted ways with the corporate world, and I left my job in finance to immerse myself in the world of winegrowing. For years prior to this, I have been fortunate enough to be in the orbit of La Garagista, learning from Deirdre and Caleb in whatever spare time I had. Through them, I realized that farming and making wine in Vermont was what I wanted to pursue long-term. They have taught me so much about the complexities of winegrowing (and life), and how to work with nature rather than against it.

The name "Lilith Wines" was inspired by two sources: the figure in Jewish folklore and the black moon Lilith astrology placement. In Jewish mythology, Lilith is a complex and powerful figure representing rebellion and independence, which resonates deeply with our winemaking philosophy. The black moon Lilith placement in astrology, inspired by the mythical woman herself, is associated with the primal and instinctive aspects of femininity, which aligns with my approach to winemaking that emphasizes natural and intuitive processes.

Beyond these inspirations, my winemaking philosophy is guided by the hermetic phrase "as above, so below, as within, so without." This phrase speaks to the interconnectedness of all things, with the microcosm reflecting the macrocosm and vice versa. In the context of biodynamic farming, it means that the health of the vineyard is directly related to the health of the surrounding ecosystem and the wider cosmos. Working in harmony with the rhythms of the moon, the sun, and the stars, we can create a healthier and more vibrant vineyard, and ultimately produce wines that are more expressive and unique. For me, winemaking is not just a job, but a way of life that reflects my values and my deep respect for the natural world.
